IF Day Two

I have decided to give IF a try, as I said in yesterday's post, I had good results with something similar before (warrior diet). I plan to do 16 hour fasts, and eat my full allotment of calories in the remaining 6 hours. I'll do 14 matched blocks (9 carb/9 protein)with plenty of fat.

I had a hard time eating enough yesterday, maybe 12 blocks, and I could barely sleep last night.

Very interested to see how this affects my WOD performance today, I plan to do it before eating.

Update: I did the 9/11 "Hero of your choice" WOD, I chose Josh:

* 95 pound Overhead squat, 21 reps
* 42 Pull-ups
* 95 pound Overhead squat, 15 reps
* 30 Pull-ups
* 95 pound Overhead squat, 9 reps
* 18 Pull-ups

I never did this so I have no comparison, but coming of the heels of severe caloric deprivation and a 17 hour fast, it felt tough.

Time: 12:20 RX

15/6
21/11/10
15
15/10/5
9
9/8/1

I seemed to be needing more recovery time than normal, but since I have never done this it is hard to say. I think sub-10 would be a good performance for me.

Excellent! I'll be very curious to see how it works for you.

One thing to keep in mind is that one of the points of IF is to keep your body off-balance - just like CF, routine is the enemy. So don't fast every day, and some days (if you feel up to it) extend your fast an hour or two longer. Try not to settle into any comfortable patterns.

Can you send me some links? I sort of gathered that it is about undulating periodizaion of macronutrient timing.

One scheme I saw was 24 w/o eating, then 6 hours eating, then 24 w/o, etc, so you would be eating at different times each day (obviously sleep would mess with this at some point).

The two major sources for IF that I've found are:

www.modernforager.com and
www.theiflife.com

IF Life has a good "IF 101" article for an introduction and some timing ideas: http://www.theiflife.com/2008/02/27/intermittent-fasting-101-how-to-start-part-i/

And Modern Forager has a great in-detail examination of what exactly is going on in your body when you fast - it's a bit eggheaded, but still pretty accessible for laymen: http://www.modernforager.com/blog/2008/08/11/part-1-what-happens-to-your-body-when-you-fast-energy-production/

The forums at Performance Menu (Robb Wolf's stomping grounds) also have a LOT of good information: http://www.performancemenu.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=4

Hope that helps.

Good luck with your new IF-ing. It's totally stellar, but I'm amazed that somehow it will allow you to have 22 hour days! I'm jealous!

Ha ha. You cycle it so you start eating at different times each day!
